When you entrust your smile — or your child's smile — to an orthodontist, you want the best. Dr. W. Gray Grieve is the most experienced orthodontist in Lane County. He has been treating patients to board standards for over 20 years. By providing the highest-quality treatment using the latest and most comfortable technology in orthodontics, he continues to exceed the expectations of his patients and his peers. His approach to treatment is very goal oriented and less-traditional, particularly in regard to his ability to avoid extraction of teeth, in all but the most extreme situations, particularly with baby teeth.
What sets Dr. G apart? Here are 12 reasons to trust your smile to Dr. Grieve.
Dr. Grieve's background
Dr. Grieve is a leader in orthodontics and the dental profession. Even as a young man growing up, he had an eye for detail, constantly pays attention, and has a strong interest in technology. Through college, Dr. Grieve developed a solid foundation in science, ethics, and critical thinking and even earned an A+ in Physics. He continues to learn and implement new technology everyday to create smiles that are A+.
In earning degrees in both Biology and Philosophy from the University of California, Dr. Grieve showed his motivation to explore and discuss what he has yet to learn in the form of an empirical scientist while thinking out of the box. He then earned a degree in General Dentistry from the University of California. While attending dental school, he helped found the Student Dental Research Group, of which he was elected President for two years. For his research in Oral Biology during dental school, he was granted two Fellowships from the National Institute of Health. Dr. G was elected to the National Honor Society, Omicron Kappa Upsilon (less than 10% of dentists nationwide), for his exceptional performance as a student. (this was way before the internet)
Following dental school, Dr. Grieve earned a Post-Doctoral Orthodontic Fellowship from the University of Nebraska Medical Center. Dr. Grieve continued his research in Oral Biology, and he earned a Master of Science degree. His involvement in the dental profession and the local community has been extensive since establishing his Eugene practice in 1991. Having lived in many large cities of the country, he chose to live in Eugene because of its university, its proximity to the ocean and mountains, and its overall livability. As the organizer for the Lane County Children's Dental Health Month in the early 90's, he has seen the program develop into the National "Give Kids a Smile Day"! His continued interest in professional service and helping others succeed in dentistry and orthodontics has led him to be president of the Oregon State Society of Orthodontists (less than 5 % of orthodontists nationwide are directly involved with their profession).
He has been elected to all of the offices in the Lane County Dental Society, is the most experienced orthodontist in Lane County and has authored a helpful book titled "How To Choose An Orthodontist". Dr. G has the honor of being listed in Who’s Who of Professionals Nationally, and he has published orthodontic and dental research in the Journal of Dental Research, as well as the American Journal of Orthodontics and Orthopedics — the orthodontic profession’s most respected journal. His research is continually cited by other researchers both nationally and internationally as a basis for their orthodontic research projects. While Dr. G would want a member of every orthodontic organization in existence, he has chosen the main, and most relevant, the American Association of Orthodontists, The World Federation of Orthodontists, the Lane County Dental Society, the Pacific Coast Society of Orthodontists, the Oregon State Society of Orthodontists, the Oregon Dental Association, the American Dental Association and has been Certified by the National Board and State Board's of California and Oregon as an Orthodontist for over 20 years. Regardless of his past achievements, his continued interest in polishing his orthodontic expertise through learning, education, and teaching keeps him at the leading edge of orthodontic innovation and excellence.
A passion for customer service has led Dr. Grieve to develop skills in all areas of orthodontic treatment and specialize in personalized care for each patient. He displays a cool style with a warm heart and places a great emphasis on early screening (age seven). His goal is to provide as much information as possible to loving and knowledgeable parents about the early development of their children. At the same time, Dr. Grieve is recognized for being a leader in the treatment of adults. About thirty percent of his patients benefiting from treatment are over the age of eighteen. The latest step forward with technology is with the computer based product for orthodontics, Invisalign and InvisalignTeen, and Dr. G was the first Elite provider of Invisalign in Oregon. As computers have improved, so has an orthodontist’s ability to successfully work with Invisalign to provide excellent results. Furthermore, now with the digital scanning ability of iTero to more accurately reproduce teeth, Invisalign is going to another level.
Dr. Grieve is an educator and has lectured nationally and internationally on the topics of oral health for adults, orthodontics for children, and orthodontics for adults. His personal commitment to the families that visit his office enables him to provide the best and most personally prescribed treatment possible. His commitment to continuing education, technology, and the ongoing improvements of procedures and his treatment facility allow him to continue to provide the absolute best and most conscientious treatment and obtain the finest results for children, adolescents and adults. As a practicing orthodontist for over 20 years, his qualifications are beyond reproach, and Dr. G will gladly compare his treatment results and patient/family satisfaction/happiness with any of his peers.
Most importantly, Dr. Grieve is a loving parent who appreciates the fleeting moments of youth and parenthood. He and his wife, Denise, a University of Oregon graduate and dental hygienist, are proud parents of a fine young man, William, and a beautiful young girl, Elizabeth! They enjoy traveling as a family, swimming, hiking, camping, half-marathons, golf (He is the course record holder at Bandon Trails 66!), Lego bricks, scouting, and most outdoor activities of Lane County and the beautiful West Coast.
